It’s that time of the year again! Fall is starting to become the season that signals to me that it’s time to start baking again It’s when the weather becomes cool enough to crank the oven up and fill our home with yummy smelling treats. Although I enjoy baking throughout the year, Fall – and October specifically – brings out the crazy baker in me! Throughout Spring and Summer I squirrel away recipes that sound tasty (usually cookie recipes) and starting in October, I unleash these recipes upon the kitchen! The results are usually way more than Sain and I could ever handle on our own so starting last year they end up in tins, packed and ready to share with friends

This year I tried to select cookie recipes that would hopefully result in a more Fall themed balance. The ones that made the cut were:

Pumpkin Spice Cookies (by request from last year!)
Shortbread Cookies
Lemon Butter Cookies
Ginger Spice Cookies
Sugar Cookies with Lemon Vanilla Frosting – always a good staple cookie

I have to get better at taking in-the-process-of-being-made photos, but thank you Sain for being my photographer while my hands were covered in flour, dough, chocolate, etc :p On to the results!

Pumpkin cookies before and after frosting, my first attempt at piping frosting! Didn't close the piping bag off properly so it got a little messy but overall very fun! And then the shortbread cookies after chocolate application!

Additionally, I’ve decided to start including larger images in my posts I realized it didn’t make much sense to have a camera capable of taking detailed photos and then going and shrinking said photos down to ridiculously small sizes lol – yay for belated realizations :p

In trying to learn how to take better photos, I’ve taken a lot of crappy photos and some middle-of-the-roaders that I don’t know exactly what to do with. However, recently I stumbled upon a pretty neat tutorial that turns my meh photos in to some pretty cool looking images! Of course I am still very dedicated to learning how to take dynamic photos, but it’s also really fun to experiment and see what happens!

The tutorial I used was the Digital Cross Processing in Photoshop tutorial on photographymad.com. For a more in depth explanation of what’s being done, my buddy pointed me to this tutorial on cambridgeincolour.com.

Hello there, Part 3!

The final post of the 3 part ‘Hello there!’ series is: drawing! It’s been a really long time since I earnestly sat down and put pencil, pen, marker, crayon to paper but lately I’ve been trying harder to take little breaks and doodle I wanted to color the images in before posting but thought I’d share the preliminary sketches and maybe post a follow up with the finished images!

A 3am sketch that started off as just a head tilted at an angle, that I decided to have resting on a hand...and eventually I added shoulders...and decided to put the figure in a dress which ended up being Chun Li at the end of it all lol

The drawing I’m really looking forward to coloring in the most is: Felicia!

Since I’m seriously thinking about getting back in to drawing, I might update this site to include a gallery as well!

Hello there! part 2

A few posts back I mentioned a part 2 and 3 on what had been keeping me away from my blog for the past almost year :p and here’s part 2: our Canon 60D camera! I’ve always been interested in photography…it’s a wonderful way to get out, walk around and explore…but also take pictures of recipe and feltie results This is primarily the reason I wanted to split up my ‘hello there’ post into parts This one has lots of photos in it! I’m still very much a beginner but I’m very happy to get back into photography!

Even with the kit lens, I love the detail in the zoom! look at his smile!

Ramen!

Yes, kind of bad posting about a different noodle soup after declaring I was going to start reviewing and posting about udon because I love it so much However! Sain and I have been questing for the longest time for a ramen recipe or restaurant worthy of taking the place of Ryowa Ramen in Moutain View, California ( there’s another Ryowa in Berkeley as well ) and I think we came one step closer!

For awhile now we’ve had this ‘500 Soup Recipes‘ book (the same recipe book that gave us the summer minestrone soup recipe) and we discovered there was a Shoyu Ramen recipe in there! The stock was a bit challenging since we didn’t have 2 chicken carcasses handy O_o but luckily the Whole Foods sold packages of chicken specifically for making soup stock. Overall it turned out really well, the instructions were easy to follow and the soup itself turned out light but flavorful! We froze half the soup stock for another ramen night, next time we’ll probably try adding some miso in there The results:
